Welcome to Backpack Buddies, an organization dedicated to reducing the effects of childhood hunger by providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over the weekend to children residing in food-insecure homes in Lawrence County, Ohio.

Backpack Buddies serves children and families in Lawrence County, Ohio through our Backpack Program and Emergency Food program. Children struggling with hunger come from families who are struggling too.

A family of four facing hunger may need 36 additional meals a month simply because they don’t have money to buy enough food. 84% of households Feeding America serves report buying the cheapest food — instead of healthy food — in order to provide enough to eat.

Backpack Buddies program was created in October of 2012, with one school in mind. The program was intended to help children in need of food over the weekend. Which quickly grew faster than we had ever imagined! Word quickly spread about our program and we are now in 15 schools in Lawrence County, Ohio serving just over 350 children each week.

Backpack Buddies exists due to the dedicated work of staff, volunteers, and donors. Did you know that a donation of just $12 per month keeps a child fed on the weekends?
